When I first heard the name of “Koh Payam” I wondered where was it? I’m Thai but I had never heard the name before, so I wanted to find out more about “Koh Payam”

Payam is in Ranong province in the Southern part of Thailand. Payam means “to attempt, try” in Thai, and I wonder why they named the island like that? I took a night bus from Bangkok southern bus terminal and get there about 6 in the morning.

When we arrived at the bus terminal there was a minibus, or what we called “song tiew” in Thai, to pick up the passengers heading to the pier. A boat leaves from the pier twice a day, and it takes about 2hrs to get to Koh Payam. Now I understand why do they call it “Koh Payam”: you really need to try hard to get there 🙂

I stayed at The Lazy Hut at “Aw yai” beach, I booked a bamboo hut with fan for 350THB per night!!

Yes really 350 Thai Baht per night. It’s a very lovely place; relaxed and quiet, and such a good place for spending holidays. And only 50 meters walk to the beach.

I rented a motorbike for 300 THB per day and drove around the Island for swimming and some lazy time at the beach all day ^_^
I would say it was a great place to escape from a busy city, such as Bangkok, as its not a touristy place like most of the island in Thailand. And there’s really nothing much to do except swim, eat and sleep. I would definitely like to visit there again!!!
